Dua Travels has listed a 14-night package at £999. It included Birmingham flights and ziyarat tours.

These trips cover the basics, but the hotels may be farther away. This is where people get it wrong. A cheap room can mean repeated bus rides and long waits after prayers.

Comfortable 4-star packages

Four-star packages normally sit between £795 and £1,295 per person. Alfalah Travel has shown 7-night options near £820, with improved meals and guide support.

AlHaram Travel has offered a 10-night package at £975. It included Retaj Al Bayt Suites in Makkah and Royal Al Makarem in Madinah.

Dua Travels has listed 14 nights at £1,159 with Voco Hotel in Makkah. Better rooms can help during fasting, especially for older pilgrims and families.

Still, don’t choose by star rating alone. Check the actual entrance, walking route and shuttle timetable. A 400-metre walk feels much longer with a pram in a dense crowd.

Premium 5-star packages

Five-star packages range from £845 to £3,275 per person. AlKhair Travel has listed a 7-night option from £1,970. It included hotels near the Haram and SUV transfers.

Islamic Travel has offered a full-month package at £2,995. It included Movenpick in Makkah, Anwar Al Madinah in Madinah, flights and visa processing.

Dua Travels has listed 14 nights at £1,195 with Pullman Zamzam. This may suit groups who want easier access and more comfortable rooms.

Some premium hotels provide Haram views, spas and large Iftar buffets. Ask whether Iftar is included every day. A good view is pleasant, but it shouldn’t replace a practical room or short route.

Which extra fees catch pilgrims out?

Extra fees can add 5% to 10% if the package isn’t clear. Common examples include baggage, private transport and ziyarat tours. A ziyarat tour may cost 150 to 200 SAR per person.

Visa processing may add £100 to £150 when it isn’t included. Travel insurance can cost another £50 to £100. Peak-period surcharges may also appear before the balance is due.

Ask whether porter tips, driver tips and administration charges are included. Check the baggage allowance for every flight, including connecting flights.

We’ve seen pilgrims arrive with large suitcases that won’t fit in a shared car. The operator then charges for another vehicle. Confirm the vehicle size before leaving the UK.

An all-inclusive package may reduce these problems, but read the exclusions. “All-inclusive” doesn’t always cover meals, laundry, local taxis or private ziyarat.

Al Misfalah and Ibrahim Al Khalil Street often have cheaper rooms. Access can still be good, but traffic and steep sections may cause difficulty.

However, lift queues can be tiring after Taraweeh. Leave your room early, especially before Maghrib and Fajr. Families should agree on a meeting point in case anyone gets separated.
